Dr. Albert G. J. Tacon

Dr. Albert G. J. Tacon is Technical Director of Aquatic Farms Ltd in Hawaii, and works as an international aquaculture consultant, specializing in aquatic feeds and nutrition. After obtaining his PhD in fish nutrition at University College (University of Wales, UK - 1978) he spent eight years within the UK as a university lecturer and researcher in applied fish nutrition at the University of Aston in Birmingham and at the Institute of Aquaculture in Stirling. In 1984 he joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and worked for fourteen years as an aquaculture feed and nutrition expert. In 1999 he moved to Hawaii and served as Director and Program Manager of the Aquatic Feeds and Nutrition Program at the Oceanic Institute. Since then Albert was has been working with Aquatic Farms Ltd (Hawaii) as an independent consultant in aquaculture and aquaculture nutrition and feed related activities. His expertise has taken him to working in over 44 countries, and has over 228 scientific publications and one patent. He currently serves as Scientific Advisor on Aquatic Resources to the International Foundation for Science, Stockholm, Sweden (since 1998), is Editor in Chief of Reviews in Aquaculture, serves on the editorial board of Aquaculture Nutrition and Aquaculture Research, and is on the board of directors of the charity Aquaculture without Frontiers (AwF).

John Bostock is Manager of the institute of Aquaculture's consultancy and project management arm "Stirling Aquaculture" and Director of the MSc Aquaculture and nation projects and contributes to MSc level teaching. John started his career in freshwater biology and fisheries before studying marine biology and zoology and then aquaculture and fishery management. He worked on fish farm project in Tanzania before joining the institute of aquaculture to support training projects in Bangladesh. Since then he has worked on over 120 consultancy projects in UK, Europe, Middle Ease, Africa, Asia, North America and the Caribbean for government agencies, non-government organisation, financial institutions, large and small private companies. He teaching spans aquaculture system design, economics, marketing, financial appraisal and business management. He has a particular interest in recycle systems, and the application of ICT within aquaculture. He is active in EU collaboration projects including previous roles as the coordinator of AQUA-TNET (Lifelong Learning Thematic Network for Aquaculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management) and the Aquaculture Innovation Network, and as a work package leader in AQUAEXEL (Access to Research Infrastructures) and the ASEM Aquaculture Platform).
Dr. Farshad Shishehchian

Dr Farshad Shishehchian is the President & CEO of Blue Aqua International Group of companies, a one-stop solution provider for aquaculture industry with a global presence in 14 countries. He is also the Founder and President of the Asian Aquaculture Network (AAN), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to inform and inspire new generations through the sharing of knowledge, education initiatives and resources for the ecological sustainability of aquaculture in the Asia Pacific region. He was also the President of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS), Asia Pacific Chapter (2013 - 2016), collecting an extensive network of over 25 years in the world’s top aquaculture producing countries. Dr. Shaun M. Moss
Executive Director Oceanic Institute of Hawaii Pacific University, Hawaii, USA
Dr. Shaun M. Moss began his career as an Associate Professor in the Marine Sciences Department at Hawaii Pacific University. Following that he has held key management positions at Oceanic Institute (OI) where he conducted extensive research on shrimp aquaculture related topics including selective breeding, biosecurity, and environmentally sustainable grow out technologies. He also headed the USDA-funded U.S. Marine Shrimp Farming Program and scientific programs at OI. To date, he has authored and co-authored more than 60 peer-review publications and has executed shrimp projects in China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. He currently serves as the Executive Director at OI where he directs diversification and expansion of the Institute’s revenue base at international, regional and local levels.
Dr. Dustin Robert Moss
Director, Shrimp Research Department Oceanic Institute - Hawaii Pacific University
Dr. Dustin Robert Moss is director of shrimp research department, Oceanic Institute. managing a marine shrimp, Penaeus vannamei. His research program focusing on selective breeding and advanced production technologies. Currently overseeing three large, industry funded projects in Asia, as well as two research grants addressing local/regional aquaculture topics. Adjunct Faculty, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, Hawaii Pacific University. Regularly teach undergraduate course. He has experienced and professional membership with Technical Committee Member, US Marine Shrimp Farming Program. Ad hoc reviewer for four peer-reviewed journals: Journal of Crustacean Biology, Journal of the World Aquaculture Society, Aquaculture, and Aquaculture Research. Consultant, Performed consultancies on various aspects of shrimp culture, including genetics and biosecurity.
Dr. Gilha Yoon
Assistant Professor, Department of Marine Science and Fisheries, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman
Dr. Gilha Yoon completed his Ph.D at the Institute of Aquaculture in the University of Stirling, Scotland with fish pathology. He has 20 years experiences of aquaculture and aquatic diseases since he started his career as a researcher at National Fisheries Research Institute, Busan, South Korea. Based in Oman at present, he started off as a fish pathology expert at the Ministry of Fisheries Wealth researching the development of the Omani aquaculture industry and screening of potentially harmful aquatic pathogens to commercially important Omani wild and aquaculture fish species. He has trained national researchers and university students and health monitored for aquaculture farms in Oman. He is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Marine Science and Fisheries, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, teaching students and researching aquaculture, seafood quality and fish pathology. He has written and participated in a prolific number of research publications and books.
Mr. Lim Meng Huat
Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Aquaculture Group Pte. Ltd. (Singapore)
Mr Lim Meng Huat is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Aquaculture Group (Singapore) where he heads the business operations in the company. He serves as a director of Apollo Aquarium Pte Ltd, which is a subsidiary company that imports and exports ornamental fishes. He also serves as chairman of the Ornamental Fish Business Cluster which sets the strategic directions for the local ornamental fish industry under the purview of the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore. He is also appointed as an adjunct lecturer in Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore and he is involved in the course development for Diploma in Applied Sciences (Aquaculture). This course aims to promote continuing education and training among working adults in the ornamental fish, food fish and related industries.
Dr. Gen Hua Yu
Director (of Strategic Research Programs) and Senior Principal Investigator, Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore
Gen Hua Yue is a Director (of Strategic Research Programs) and Senior Principal Investigator at the Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore. He is an adjunct professor at several universities (SYSU, SHOU, NUS and NTU) in China and Singapore. He got his PhD at the University Hohenheim, Germany in 1999. The research focus of his group is to use genomic approaches to improve the productivity and sustainability of economically important fish (e.g. Asian seabass and marine tilapia). He has published over 130 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals. He has been on the editorial boards of several international journals (e.g. Scientific Reports, BMC Genomics, Aquaculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Gene, Frontiers in Livestock Genomics, Plos One) and has evaluated over 200 scientific papers for 58 international journals. He has reviewed research proposals from EU, the USA, China, France, Ireand, Kuwait, New Zealand and Singapore since 2007.
Professor Dean Jerry
Director of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Hub for Advanced Prawn Breeding, and the Deputy Director JCU Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture
Professor Dean Jerry is the Director of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Hub for Advanced Prawn Breeding, and the Deputy Director JCU Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture. His primary area of research focus and expertise is in the application of genetic technologies to the improvement of farmed aquatic organisms, where he has over 100 publications in the field. He has worked with aquaculture species for 17+ years and over this time has built a large internationally recognised research team in aquaculture genetics which has been instrumental in the development of genetic tools and knowledge to inform selective breeding programs for numerous tropical aquatic farmed species. His current major research focus is on developing the genetic and genomic knowledge base of the two most farmed shrimp species, Litopeneus vannamei and Penaeus monodon.
Dr. Tim-Miller Morgan
Lead, Aquatic Animal Health Program, Oregan Sea Grant - College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon State University, U.S.A, Timothy J. Miller-Morgan, BSc, BSc (cum laude), DVM, CertAqV
Dr. Miller-Morgan is an aquatic veterinarian and directs the Oregon Sea Grant - Aquatic Animal Health Program at Oregon State University. He has nearly 30 years of experience in aquatic animal medicine, husbandry and education. The last 20 years have been primarily focused on fish and aquatic invertebrates. He currently provides outreach, education and clinical consulting to the aquarium fish industry and public aquariums. He has consulted and taught extensively on fish and invertebrate health issues, primarily related to aquarium fish, throughout the United States and Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Israel, India, Australia, Brazil, Singapore and Malaysia. Some of his current work focuses on the development of industry best health practices including: prevention of bacterial disease and antibiotic resistance, mitigation of post shipment morbidity and mortality among wild-caught marine and freshwater ornamental fish, and the development of standardized health management protocols and training throughout the aquarium fish chain of custody.
Dr. Miller-Morgan is also an assistant professor of aquatic medicine at the Oregon State University, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). He is also the co-creator and an instructor of aquatic animal health management with the Aquarium Science Program at Oregon Coast Community College in Newport. This successful and unique program trains husbandry professionals for work in public aquaria, research laboratories, aquaculture facilities and the aquarium fish industry.
Dr. Miller-Morgan is a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian with the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association and a Professional Fellow of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Dr. Padmanabhan Saravanan

Padmanabhan Saravanan obtained his doctoral degree at the Dr ALM Postgraduate Institute of BioMedical Sciences, University of Madras, India. He spent his postdoc years at Centre for Biologics Evaluation & Research (CBER), FDA, Bethesda (USA) and at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Medical and Applied Microbiology. He has joined Temasek Polytechnic in 2011 and has been working on fish health and food safety. His team has developed a rapid on-site sample processing and detection kit for screening food contamination which has received MOE Innergy Gold Award in 2016. His team has developed an on-site test kit for fish iridovirus detection and has developed oral vaccine for fish iridoviral disease jointly with Israeli collaborator. Presently, he is heading the Centre of Innovation (COI) for Complementary Health Products (CHP) at School of Applied Sciences, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore.
His research interests include: analysis of fish disease diagnosis and health monitoring using microbiological, immunological and molecular methods. Study of immunomodulatory effects of feed additives, health supplements and evaluation of fish oral vaccines. Development of fibre optic sensors for health monitoring, genetic analysis and microbiome profiling are other areas in focus. He has lead and completed projects from MOE-TRF, SIIRD, and has on-going MOE-TIF projects on sample preparation technology using microfluidics and development of fish counting and morphometric monitoring device.
Deputy Director, Norwegian Veterinary Institute (NVI), Norway
Brit Hjeltnes has been working with fish diseases for more than 30 years. She holds a Dr. Scient degree in Microbiology (Fish Vaccinology and Bacteriology) from University of Bergen and is educated in Fish Health Management from U.S Fish and Wildlife, USA. Brit has a previously worked as a researcher and Research Director at Institute of Marine Research, Professor in Fish Health at the University of Tromsø and is for the 13 last years Deputy Director at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. She has been a member of numerous commissions and from 2012-2015 she was a member of the OIE Aquatic Animal Health Standards Commission (AAHSC). At present she is chairing Panel on Animal health and Welfare of the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety.
Professor, Marine Solution & Feed Technology, Spring, Texas, USA
Tzachi Samocha a recently retired Regents Fellow & Professor with Texas A&M AgriLife Research. After obtaining his Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University, Israel he joined the National Center for Mariculture in Eilat, Israel where he served as Head of the Shrimp Research Unit from 1980 through 1988. In 1989 he moved to Texas and joined the Texas A&M University System. During his tenure, he served for more than 27 years as Director of Research & Development at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Mariculture Laboratory in Corpus Christi, Texas. His activities included the development of sustainable shrimp production practices and transferring this technology to commercial producers.
A partial summary of his work over these years was recently published by the World Aquaculture Society under the title: “Design and operation of super-intensive biofloc-dominated systems for indoor production of the Pacific White Shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei - The Texas A&M AgriLife Research Experience.”
He currently continues to advance this work through his worldwide consulting activities.
Mr. Les Knoesen
Founder, ITHUBA Shrimp, Fellsmere, Florida
Mr. Les Knoesen is the Managing partner and co-owner of Ithuba Shrimp Farm in Florida USA. He attended the Pretoria College for Advanced Technical Education, Graduating in Civil Engineering in 1966. He completed the program for Strategic Marketing and Management Development at the University of Cape Town in 1979 and 1983. He worked for the largest construction group in Africa for 28 years retiring as director in 1990, forming his own construction company.
He emigrated to USA in2011 where he was instrumental in the design and construction of two of the largest indoor recirculating aquaculture systems in the USA as well as several smaller systems over the past six years. He is considered a leader in the design, construction and operational management of biofloc RAS systems. Results have confirmed the commercial viability of the system and through his presentation he will share his experiences and ideas.
Mr. Liang Bing
Senior Scientist, Marine Aquaculture Centre, Agri-food & Veterinary Authority (AVA)
Mr. Liang Bing is a Senior Scientist at the Marine Aquaculture Centre, which is established by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore to spearhead aquaculture development in Singapore. He has 8 years of experience in the research and development of fish broodstock management for tropical marine foodfish species such as seabass and pompano. His key research focuses on marker-assisted selective breeding for Asian seabass and induced breeding of captive fish. One of his recent projects was to develop jade perch breeding capability at a local fish farm and assess its suitability as a new species for coastal fish farms. He graduated from Wuhan University, China and received his M.Sc from University of Singapore (NUS).
Dr. Niti Chuchird

Dr. Niti Chuchird completed his Ph.D at Hiroshima University, Japan with Virology. He has 22 years experiences of shrimp farm management and shrimp diseases since he started his career as a lecturer at faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, bangkok, Thailand. He is currently a director of Aquaculture Business Research Center, faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand. He has written and participated in a prolific number of research publications and books. He is one of the forefront researchers in these fields today.
