Roy has been involved in the seafood industry since 1972; he has travelled extensively and is experienced in all post-harvest activities with training qualifications and has regular consultant activities especially in the important value supply chain.
Roy is a believer in continuous improvement and in collaboration and always striving for innovative ways to improve the important seafood industry. He has taken a lead role in new ventures such as the Association of International Seafood Professionals and he combines that with the lead role with Aquaculture without Frontiers, which is simply fantastic work done by many volunteers who share their skills, knowledge and time to improve conditions for the poor who are struggling with hunger and malnutrition.
One his major aims is to help raise the profile and consumption of seafood and he engages that in many ways including being involved with Global Initiative of Life & Leadership through Seafood (GILLS), which connects with global researchers converting their science into relevant information which is then broadcast to politicians, media and consumers.
If passion was music, then it has been said that Roy would be a brass band because there are few better than he in raising the profile and consumption of seafood. He has recently been acknowledged by the Mexican Government as being a catalyst in their increase in seafood consumption (an increase of over 4 kgs per person per annum over 3-4 years). He has been appointed Honorary Professor for the Universidad Tecnológica del Mar de Tamaulipas primarily due to his continued work in Mexico and with his involvement with AwF in the state of Tamaulipas.
Honored this year by The World Gastronomy Institute as their first VIP to receive the WGI Medal of Honor he has worked as a consultant for both The World Bank (part of a successful plan for a project which has just been funded US$ 20 million) and UN’s Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) on developing a strategy for seafood consumption in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Roy believes that aquaculture is the most important farming that the world does but that we all need to work diligently to ensure this is recognized globally.

Dr BAY Lian Jie
National Centre for Food Science, Singapore Food Agency
Dr Bay graduated from the National of University of Singapore with a PhD in Chemistry in 2014. His work during his PhD involved the use of stable isotope signatures to solve food authenticity issues such as the differentiation between wild and farmed fish as well as organic versus conventional foods. He joined the then Agri-Food and Veterinary of Singapore in September of the same year, bringing along with him his expertise in food authentication in helping to ensure that food sold on the retail market in Singapore are true to label. Now he is working in the Authentication and Traceability Team within the National Centre of Food Science which is exploring the use of state-of-the-art technologies to authenticate as well as improve the traceability of food down the supply chain, an important consideration given that Singapore is heavily dependent on imports to meet our food requirements.
Oreka Solutions - harnessing the power of insects to solve big problems
Jon is an entrepreneur, social innovator, thought leader, industry pioneer, speaker and coach who helps unleash the power of purpose in business.
What underpins all his work is the understanding that purpose and profitability are now two sides of the same coin, and you cannot have one without the other. The ability to harness the power of purpose will determine who will thrive and who will fail in the new global marketplace. As Millennials and Generation Z shift the expectations of the global workforce, and technological innovations in the 4th industrial revolution shift how goods are produced and how value is delivered to customers, purpose is no longer a “nice to have.”
Jon has worked in more than 60 countries, with some 200+ organizations. His most recent venture, Oreka Solutions, is pioneering the new industry of insect-farming to revolutionise how food is produced, creating and challenging new frontiers in science and big data from a place of purpose.
Through his work, he has become convinced that humans are hard-wired to care about their legacy, and that traditional approaches to business (and philanthropy) just don’t work anymore.
Jon’s energy and passion shine through in his insightful and personable leadership style. He has been voted the world’s second most influential communicator in social innovation (second only to Bill Clinton) by a group of his peers, and he has shared speaking platforms with leaders such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Kofi Annan and Steve Wozniak. He is the author of two books, “Philanthropy in a Flat World” (2008) and “(me)volution” (2012).
Jon challenges the status quo, gleefully sparking disruptive change and supporting leaders to reframe the well-worn story of profits over people.
